Dubai Invitational: Reaction, scores, highlights after Shane Lowry's final-hole blunder and Nacho Elvira's dramatic win

Spurs would prefer permanent appointment

Your Site News reporter Michael Bridge:

Tottenham is still a very attractive club to many managers. That's why Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho took the role. It's why Mauricio Pochettino has said he would love to go back. It's why our understanding is Roberto De Zerbi would be interested in the role in the summer.

These are two very different Tottenham Hotspurs. It's a big club, sure, but it could be one of the riskiest moves you make in management.

The new boss could be the one that sees Spurs relegated. Or, in the summer, Tottenham stay in the Premier League and big names come in for it again.

It's my understanding that Tottenham would ideally prefer to appoint someone on a permanent basis. Where does that leave you? It's unlikely you will get managers out of their contract at this stage of the season. The one name that keeps coming up is De Zerbi.

He did a brilliant job at Brighton and a good job at Marseille. He is the name that is not going away. He's had admirers in the previous regime under Daniel Levy and he's still got them now. I still believe he needs convincing to come in now.

It's going to be a huge decision.

'Still needs convincing to come in now' | Is De Zerbi the man to revive Tottenham's fortunes?

Your Site NewsMichael Bridge spells out whether Roberto De Zerbi could replace Igor TudorasTottenhamboss as the club bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

'Premier League experience crucial' - Who next for Tottenham?

Your Site News' Michael Bridge on who could replace Igor Tudor at Tottenham:

"It doesn't necessarily need to be someone like that [with Spurs DNA]. I don't think it needs to be someone who sings Chaz and Dave in their car. It's got to be someone with Premier League experience.

"Someone who knows what it is like to go to Wolves away. Someone who knows what it is like to face Leeds at home in a few weeks. Brighton in a couple weeks.

"We know Igor Tudor was appointed to put out fires. He did it at Juventus and Lazio. But he hasn't done it with a club that was trying to stay in the Premier League.

"The fact is, it didn't happen. They lost against Crystal Palace. They lost against Fulham. From the very start it was looking extremely difficult for him.

"If they don't get this appointment right, they will be relegated from the Premier League.

"My understanding is that they are looking to appoint someone in the coming days. Tottenham is a very attractive club to many managers. That's why Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho took the role. It's why Maurcio Pochettino has said he would love to go back. It's why, our understanding is Roberto De Zerbi would be interested in the role in the summer.

"These are two very different Tottenham Hotspur's. It's a big club, sure, but it could be one of the riskiest moves you make in management. Or, in the summer, Tottenham stay in the Premier League and big names come in for it again. It's going to be a huge decision.

"Relegation is absolutely unthinkable for a football club for this size, but also very possible."

Tudor leaves Tottenham after seven games

Igor Tudor has left his role as Tottenham Hotspur head coach after seven matches in charge.

Chelsea and Liverpool are tracking Swiss centre-back

Chelsea and Liverpool could battle it out for the signature of Switzerland Under-21s captain Roggerio Nyakossi, according to The Sun.

The OH Leuven centre-back could make a move to the Premier League this summer as the 22-year-old is approaching the final year of his contract.

Club throughout Europe took an interest in Nyakossi in January,  but he stayed in Belgium to help Leuven beat the drop.

But Nyakossi reportedly is now lining up a move to a major European league, with Chelsea and Liverpool closely tracking his situation between now and the summer transfer window.

Everton, West Ham, Fulham and Crystal Palace are also believed to be monitoring 6ft 4in tall defender.

Goalkeeper Cox shutting out noise about future

Latest from Your Site' Dan Long:

Brentford goalkeeper Matt Cox - who is currently on loan at Shrewsbury - has told Your Site he is shutting out the noise about his future.

A recent report in The Standard suggested the 22-year-old was attracting attention from Premier League clubs and clubs in Europe.

"Regardless of how long I've had left on my contract, every year has been a big year for me. Every year, I just want to make it the best year I possibly can with the situation I'm in," he said.

"Every year, I want to prove myself like it's my last year. I don't want to be at a point in my career where I've waited or wasted a few years. I don't want to be in a situation where I'm regretting stuff come the end of a contract

"Being towards the end of a contract, stuff could be happening around my future, but I shut all that out and know, if I'm doing my best all the time, hopefully that will give me an opportunity, whether that is at Brentford or elsewhere."

Klopp 'urging' Liverpool to sign Salah replacement

Jurgen Klopp is urging Liverpool to make Yan Diomande their Mohamed Salah replacement, according to The Sun.

Liverpool have been linked with the RB Leipzig winger after Salah confirmed last week that he will depart Anfield at the end of this season.

Klopp, who is Red Bulls global head of soccer after leaving Liverpool two years ago, has reportedly encouraged his former club to recruit Diomande.

Liverpool are expected to sign two wingers to replace Salah, but  Diomande is valued at around 87m and other Premier League clubs are thought to be monitoring the 19-year-old.

Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham are also believed to be interested in the winger.

Aberdeen sign Bwomono as midfielder departs

Aberdeen have signed defender Elvis Bwomono until the end of the season after he impressed on trial.

The 27-year-old, who was most recently in Iceland with BV, played under Dons boss Stephen Robinson at St Mirren last season.

Aberdeen have also sold midfielder Sivert Heltne Nilsen to Norwegian second-tier club FK Haugesund.

The 34-year-old asked to leave the club to return to his homeland so he can be closer to his family and pursue coaching alongside his playing career.

Aberdeen manager Stephen Robinson paid tribute to Nislen as an "outstanding professional" during his short time in charge.

Macario makes San Diego Wave move

Catarina Macario has completed a move from Chelsea to NWSL side San Diego Wave.

Macario  joined the Blues in July 2023 from OL Lyonnes, but has seen her time at the club punctuated with injury.

The USA international leaves Chelsea with 59 appearances and 15 goals, winning two WSL titles, two League Cups - including this year's trophy - and the FA Cup.

She has signed a deal with San Diego Wave until 2030.

A club statement added: "Everyone at Chelsea would like to sincerely thank Catarina for her contribution to our success, and we wish her well during the next chapter of her career back home in the United States."

Blackburn sign ex-Saints winger Redmond on short-term deal

Blackburn have signed former Southampton winger Nathan Redmond on a short-term deal.

The 32-year-old joins Ewood Park on a free transfer after leaving Sheffield Wednesday in January, having spent just three months at the Championship's bottom side.

Redmond, who has one England cap, has made 276 Premier League appearances for Saints, Norwich and Burnley.

Blackburn sit 19th in the Championship and four points clear of the drop zone with seven games left.

Rovers have included the attacker in an amended 25-man squad ahead of their Championship game at Birmingham on April 3, live on Your Site.
